Video Game Creative Services
I head up the Creative Services group for Maximum Games / Modus, a video game publisher based in the Bay Area. I came onboard when they were a small, junior team, and helped to mentor and guide the Designers and Editors, growing the team and increased our capacity but also the quality of our output. I’ve got a fantastic team and the lowest turnover of any department in the company.
Except for a few examples where I’ve sketched out compositions myself, my team does all the heavy lifting - I spend my time giving feedback on designs and providing inspiration or alternate ideas when they get stuck, managing their workloads so they are kept busy but don’t burnout, and mentoring/guiding them to become independent art producers who can work with clients and manage communication and timelines well.

Stela Comics
A comics App on iPhone and Android, serving up original episodic comics created specifically for the vertical-scrolling of phones. In my role as Creative Director and Editor in Chief at the start-up, I built an Editorial Team and signed/recruited a whole slate of comics creators (a mix of bigger, more established creators and newer talent), then worked with them as an Editor and Producer to get comics finished on time and at quality standards. Much of the work centered around the unique form of vertical comics and how it impacted normal comic storytelling techniques, making sure creators understood the leap from flipping pages to an endless vertical scroll.
